Drain Express installed a new hot water heater. They were professional, courteous, did great work and showed up less than 4 hours after we called. Impressive to say the least. The price they quoted us was the price we paid, so no hidden fees, add ons at the last minute or taking advantage of our urgent need. Highly recommend Drain Express.

Drain Express was awesome. They diagnosed what was wrong, fixed and replaced toilet and facet. They didn't try to nickel and dime me. There were parts I needed that usually cost $20, which they supplied for free. Were on time and left no mess.

I have used Drain Express for many years for work large and small (including installing new sewer lines under part of my house, along with an external sewer pump). They have always been professional, courteous, punctual, and reasonably priced.

Napier was very prompt and professional, especially since we had a rather nebulous issue with our upstairs shower leaking a small amount of water onto the ceiling below. From the outside, there were some possibilities, but nothing definitive. We really weren't looking forward to tearing up the downstairs ceiling yet again, as this had been a recurring issue over our 7 year occupancy in our house. Nampier made the excellent (and obvious in hindsight) suggestion to install an access panel in the downstairs ceiling so it will be much easier to diagnose problems in the future. Nampier did an excellent job cutting the ceiling and installing the panel and then he was able to diagnose where the water was coming from. It was actually two different leaks, which only became apparent after fixing the first one. The first problem was that sometime in the past someone chose to glue together two 90 degree elbows instead of putting in a proper trap. Inevitably that joint was going to fail and it did. It didn't leak much, but enough over time to damage the ceiling. That would have been undetectable without opening the ceiling and having an expert looking at it. In addition, after that was fixed, another leak showed up in the drain pipe joint itself, which is going to take some reconstruction of the tiled shower upstairs. Again, the extent won't be known until we get a tile person to expose the drain, but because of Nampier's diligence and expertise, we can get it fixed the right way.

We first hired QST last fall for a tricky well issue, and Hunter was our specialist. He was kind, humble, and exceptionally knowledgeable, one of those rare people who’s both deeply skilled and genuinely passionate about the craftsmanship of his trade. His attention to detail isn’t fussy; rather, it reflects that he enjoys the work as a form of art and not just a means to a paycheck. I kept (a little annoyingly) requesting him for future appointments because it’s honestly rare to meet someone so openly nerdy about (and so good at) what they do. Today we had a separate concern with our septic system, and Charlie Smith came out. Whatever QST does to cultivate their team, it’s working, because Charlie and Hunter are cut from the same cloth: they blend deep technical knowledge, clear communication, and genuine kindness. When they explain things, it doesn’t feel like I’m the target of a sales pitch or being talked down to. They’re actually really interesting and energizing to talk to about plumbing… like i may or may not have considered whether I took the wrong career path because they are so fun to talk to…? Both Charlie and Hunter also train others at QST. As a pedagogy nerd, this is one thing that will keep me coming back to this company. They both possess knowledge about how people learn, and are calm, patient people. Charlie even mentioned a definition of humility that is going to stick with me: understanding that there’s always more to learn. I would say a prerequisite to that belief is a deep commitment to curiosity, which is a really special quality in a seasoned tradesperson. QST isn’t cheap, but they also don’t cut corners or take advantage. For example, when Hunter was here working on our well system, he noticed our propane pipe wasn’t painted according to code and just quietly fixed it. He didn’t have to; he just did. We originally contacted QST because we needed someone who services wells in Orange County. Now we’ll be turning to them in Durham too, even though we’re on city water and sewer here. And for anyone with older or historic homes: Hunter loves old houses and has real experience with it, which is a huge plus for us. We’re very grateful and genuinely happy customers! Big thanks to Hunter and Charlie for converting us to QST fans.

Omg…My experience with Alex the technician was Awesome!! Thanks Alex for being patient & resourceful with your knowledge referencing my options available with my hot water heater. In addition to providing me my options he actually provided photos of the things that were in question while taking time to explain all areas of concern. Everything I needed was done the day of the service call with no hesitation. Although I was stressed about the situation,Quality Service Today most definitely lived up to their company’s name. After receiving an outrageous estimate from another company, they came out and made a reasonable offer. They did a great job. Septic abandonment, sewer connection. They were efficient, respectful, and clean. They are the best for small and large jobs. You did a great job and exceeded my expectations. Jerry, thank you for making the process so easy.

Mark spent all day fixing leaks, and replacing faucets and drains. He was prompt and professional and the fixtures look great! Most importantly, he was able to explain the issues with respect to what we needed to do, could do, and should do so that we could understand the recommendations. He gave us multiple options so we could decide what we were comfortable with and could afford. He came back the following day to address an additional issue that popped up as well. We really appreciate him and recommend him without reservation! That is superb service!

Mark Bailey was excellent with putting in an undersink reverse osmosis system that I purchased. He never worked with this brand before but was able to figure it out with great expertise. In the process, he also identified that my plumbing was not ideal and going to cause a major clog eventually. He was able to explain it to me (someone with no experience) in an understandable way. It was easy to see his point about the pipes being forced into position to fit my old drain connection to the garbage disposal but now the water sits in the disposal instead of draining out properly. Everything was much pricier than expected, especially with the extra work recommended, but Mark was working under my sink and in the crawl space all day to create a new drain system. In the end, installing the RO system was the easy part. He worked hard!! He also suggested other things to improve safety but was not pushy about it, which I appreciated. Will be a task for another visit. Thanks Mark! Addendum- had two slow leaks with the RO system so asked for Mark to come back. He was able to fix one but the other appears to be an issue with the product part. Mark patiently diagnosed where the leaks were coming from and sat for a while after fixing one to make sure it didn’t leak again. He also helped explore how to maintain the system with me. Appreciate all his hard work!

Justin was great at helping us fix a leak at our well, but his full house inspection was even more helpful in identifying a few issues we didn’t even know about. He kept us informed of everything he was doing and was super friendly. Will definitely use this company again for any issues in the future.

Technician came out to diagnose a slow toilet draining issue. He was straightforward in his plan and execution. After finding no issues, we ran drainage testing and the problem was no longer evident. Apparently, the perceived vent blockage cleared itself while we were testing. Technician shared his thoughts and basically told me to call if it showed up again, all without charging me for the visit. I would definitely call for my next plumbing problem.

Mr. Rooter's service was amazing. I had 2 toilets overflow on a Friday afternoon. The technician came out that day, diagnosed the problem, and temporarily restored the use of the toilets. They came back on Sunday to finish the job. There was no upcharge for the weekend work. I give this company my highest recommendation.

Trae was very kind when I came home to a washer line gushing hot water on the phone. He walked me through how to turn off the hot water and the gas. Then he came out to fix the leak. He was very professional and gave me several options. The pricing was very reasonable. I will definitely be sending business to Trae when I'm ready to replace my old water heater. Thank you!

I wouldn't recommend Shelton Plumbing Company. I was charged $375 for a hot water heater to be removed and $150 for a shut off valve to be installed. I feel like the prices were fair, if he had done the job properly without leaving me with a leaking hot water line that he rigged and didn't cap off. He said it was our fault because we turned on the hot water line, which we never told him we did. He doesn't take accountability for his poor workmanship. The water hose he brought to drain my hot water heater had a hole in it. He also got and attitude when I asked if he had shoe covers to wear in the house so he wouldn't get red clay soil on the carpet. He got water all over my bathroom floor when he began draining the hot water heater and used one of my personal towels without permission to get it up. He didn't get all the water up, so before he left I asked him if he was going to clean it up. He said that wasn't part of the job. (He made the mess) He got an attitude and said whatever makes you happy. Very unprofessional. Will not be using this companies services again and I would never recommend. Added photos of his workmanship. In response to your response to my review. It was my understanding that the person who came out was the owner of the business. It's bizarre to me that you're trying to blame someone else for your unprofessionalism. But I shouldn't be surprised, since you blamed us for the leak after what you did failed. No protective covering was ever put on the floor (you put a piece of old cardboard under the hot water heater and drug it out) and I had to ask you to remove your shoes, because you were going to walk on my bedroom carpet with dirty water on your shoes and you got an attitude when I asked. And when you got the hot water heater to my back door, you let it fall onto my steps and into the yard. The two lines you hooked together leaked onto the floor below. You came back out, but didn't fix the leak and after that you wouldn't answer or return any of my calls. Therefore, I had to hire another company to take care of the mess. The technician from Big Dawgs cut the lines and installed plugs and I haven't had a water leak since. It only took him 5 minutes. I never asked you to fix any damage from prior water damage. I just didn't expect you to get water all over my bathroom floor and and smear it and leave it that way. The towel you grabbed was not used to clean any water up before you arrived. It was on my bathroom counter and before you grabbed it, you said, "I know you're not going to like this, but I've got to use this to get the water up." Even though you said it was common to get some water on the floor removing a hot water heater, you didn't come prepared for it.

Shelton was hugely helpful changing out the pressure reducing valve in my house. He was very responsive and worked efficiently without trying to upsell me on any extra services. I truly appreciate service professionals like him who respond to text messages and show up when they say they will, ready to finish the job. I will definitely be recommending him for anyone else looking for a friendly, honest, independent contractor.

Had a great experience with Shelton Plumbing Co. I called Mr. Williams to see if he had time this week or next to look at our kitchen sink, and he arrived within 30 minutes. He quickly figured out the issue and fixed our garbage disposal. He was kind, knowledgeable, and very prompt, even though it was not an emergency. I would definitely recommend him!

I discovered a leak beneath my house, but we couldn’t pinpoint the source. The crawl space was soaked—subfloors and insulation included—and I was genuinely worried it might cost thousands to fix. Anthony from Harmon Plumbing came out to inspect everything thoroughly. Thankfully, he found that the pipes and drains were all in good shape. The most likely culprit turned out to be the dishwasher. Anthony walked me through how to help the area dry out and what steps to take next. He and his team were incredibly kind, honest, and transparent—no scare tactics, no unnecessary repairs, and absolutely no price gouging. They even told me to reach out if the moisture didn’t clear up within a week or if I replaced the dishwasher and had issues again. That kind of reassurance gave me real peace of mind. I originally found Harmon Plumbing through a contractor I’d hired, and they were fantastic then too. This is my third time using them—second time I’ve called them directly—and I won’t go to anyone else. Trust is hard to come by, and I trust these guys completely. That peace of mind is priceless.

Professional Drain Cleaning in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Chapel Hill is known for its historic charm and lush greenery, from the corridors of UNC to the quiet residential streets of Southern Village. However, those beautiful old oak trees and aging infrastructure often mean recurring plumbing headaches for homeowners. Whether you’re dealing with a slow sink in a historic bungalow near Franklin Street or a total main line backup in a newer development, finding a plumber who can actually show up today shouldn't be another chore on your list.

That’s where our unique verification service changes the game. We don't just give you a list of numbers; we actively scan our network of 15 certified Chapel Hill plumbers, filter them by your exact zip code, and call them to confirm they have an open slot for you. We do the legwork so that when you connect, you know you're getting a local pro who is ready to work immediately, saving you time and stress.

Common Drain Issues in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Tree root intrusion is a major culprit in Orange County. Chapel Hill’s signature "Southern Living" landscape features mature trees with aggressive root systems that seek out moisture in older clay or cast iron pipes, leading to stubborn blockages and potential pipe damage.

In the student-heavy areas near the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, high-occupancy rentals often face severe clogs from grease and non-flushable items. With multiple residents sharing kitchens and bathrooms, drains take a heavy beating that requires professional-grade snaking or hydro-jetting.

Older homes in the historic districts often struggle with "narrowing" pipes. Over decades, mineral deposits from North Carolina water and organic buildup can constrict the diameter of your drainage system, leading to slow-moving water and that annoying gurgling sound in your sinks.

Chapel Hill’s rolling hills and red clay soil can impact outdoor drainage. During heavy North Carolina thunderstorms, yard drains and basement floor drains can back up if they aren't regularly cleared of silt and debris, risking water damage to your property crawlspaces.

Seasonal Drain Maintenance Tips for Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Spring Root Growth: As Chapel Hill warms up in the spring, tree roots grow rapidly. Schedule a camera inspection to ensure new growth hasn't breached your sewer lines during the rainy season.

Summer High Usage: With more guests visiting the Triangle area, your garbage disposal works overtime. Avoid putting fibrous vegetables or grease down the kitchen sink to prevent mid-summer backups.

Fall Leaf Management: Keep your outdoor perimeter drains and gutters clear of fallen leaves. Chapel Hill’s heavy foliage can easily clog exterior drainage systems, leading to pooling water near your foundation during autumn rains.

Winter Pipe Protection: While our winters are generally mild, a sudden freeze can cause standing water in clogged drains to expand. Ensure your main drains are clear before the first frost to prevent internal pressure that could lead to cracks.

Average Drain Cleaning Costs in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

$145-$475

Prices in Chapel Hill typically vary based on the severity of the clog, the equipment required (such as basic snaking vs. hydro-jetting), and whether the issue is in a single fixture or the main sewer line.

Frequently Asked Questions about Drain Cleaning in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Do your plumbers cover the areas near UNC and Southern Village?

Yes, we scan for certified plumbers across all Chapel Hill zip codes, ensuring coverage from the university area to the outskirts of Orange and Chatham counties.

Is hydro-jetting necessary for Chapel Hill homes?

For homes with significant root intrusion or grease buildup common in local rentals, hydro-jetting is often the most effective long-term solution to clear the entire pipe diameter and prevent future clogs.

How much does a standard drain cleaning cost in Chapel Hill?

A simple drain snaking in Chapel Hill usually ranges from $145 to $250, while more complex main line clearings or hydro-jetting can reach $475 or more depending on the access point and severity.

Will the plumber be familiar with Chapel Hill's older plumbing systems?

Absolutely. Our network includes experienced pros who understand the specific challenges of the historic cast iron and clay pipes found throughout older Chapel Hill neighborhoods and the Northside district.
