Top Rated Plumbers in Ames, Iowa
Draintech Plumbing Drain Cleaning Hydro Jetting
2825 Wakefield Cir, Ames, IA 50010, USA
(515) 233-3700Big shoutout to Drain Tech - the only plumbing company I truly trust. Will and Kaden removed my old dishwasher, installed the new one, and even cut and replaced a leaking main waterline pipe that I thought was just water from my sump pump. They were professional, personable, and efficient. When you call for service, you will probably speak with Linda. She is always friendly and helpful. Honest, fair, and top-notch service every time.
7 months agoI've had them out for a clogged kitchen sink, a clogged toilet and a toilet replacement. Been happy each and every time. They keep you in the loop if they're running even 5 minutes late. Would highly recommend.
4 months agoWe had back up in our sewer line and we were recommended by a friend as they do not come up when searching like most companies... We will be calling them from now on! They were in and out in less than an hour and the prices can't be beat. We had 2 gentlemen show up and get right to work. They snaked the drain 4 or 5 times and problem solved! I would recommend this company to anyone. I would also like to add that Kenyon and Patrick deserve a raise! They were very friendly and knowledgeable. The way they explained everything made it easy to understand.
1 year agoRoto-Rooter Sewer Drain Service
2228 229th Pl, Ames, IA 50014, USA
(515) 292-9277These two men went above and beyond to tackle the issue with the sewer drain and septic system issue. Christian McCasland and Cameron Boynton many hours spent here working hard to fix the issues. The two men were very excellent customer service, experienced, explained everything they were doing and what had to be done. They had to leave and go back to get more equipment to fix our sewer drain and septic system. Excellent couple of men and 100% satisfied with their services and price very reasonable for the amount of hours at the homes doing the inspection and work. Should give them a call 24 hours service from the professionals. Thanks for amazing job. Ames,Iowa store.
9 months agoZach was awesome fixed my sewer main clog and snaked my secondary floor drain. Quick and thorough job and very respectful! Will definitely be my first call next time if needed!
3 months agoTechnician Zach was at our house within 30 minutes of call to the office. Cleared drain line from house to street. Clean, efficient, and friendly to work with. Explained what he was doing and cleaned up well after himself. Could not have asked for better or more prompt service.
5 months agoBehle Inc
2228 229th Pl, Ames, IA 50014, USA
(515) 598-5279We currently have a large scale restoration project going on in our building and ran into an issue of a cast iron sewer pipe being cracked. The best option was vertical pipe lining, which not very many places do. Was referred to Behle in Ames and they confirmed they could do this and were very knowledgeable. They came quickly to give us a quote, which was fair, and they also came quickly to repair the pipe. They next day actually!! We really appreciated the quickness because our project was pretty much at a standstill until the pipe could be repaired. Highly recommend them
6 months agoI had Rich, Justin and Robby out to pump a septic tank and jet a main line that had a blockage that turned out to be tree roots. All of the guys were very knowledgeable, professional and just great to work with. They went above and beyond my expectations! I will definitely call Behle for future needs so I can work with these guys again!
5 months agoThe alarm started going off on our septic system so I immediately called to have someone come out. Yes, it was after hours and yes it was a weekend and I was fully prepared to pay that after hour fee. I was not however prepared to pay a $500.00 bill for 1 hour of labor nor was I prepared to be billed for “their standard” 2 hour minimum labor rate. Apparently this should’ve been disclosed on the phone during the initial call and it was not. Had I known that, I would definitely had called another company. I called the office the next business morning and asked them to review the bill with me that I had already paid at the time the services were completed. She stated that the 2 hours of labor was charged correctly, that was standard/minimum and that I should’ve been told that on the phone before they came out and was not. I was also charged 2 hours of after hours call which she stated should’ve been 1 hour charged, she did refund me 1 hour at $100.00 however she noticed that I was not charged a trip charge so proceeded to subtract that from the $100.00 overpayment which left $74.xx to be refunded to me. A job that took 1 hour and their cost of a hose clamp to reattach the pump to the pipe well exceeded what I had expected to pay. Not to mention, he wanted to put a rubber boot on it but he didn’t have one on hand so I’m not convinced this hose clamp will be a very long fix before it breaks again. In the future, I will seek business elsewhere. If they would have been transparent up front, it would’ve been different. If they had approached me with a better resolution in the end, my rating and review would be different. I was severely overcharged and then to add another cost to my already paid bill, was another kick in the stomach. I felt they should’ve ate that cost since it wasn’t charged on my original invoice.
10 months agoBenjamin Franklin Plumbing of Ames
409 S Bell Ave, Ames, IA 50010, USA
(515) 996-4476Ben Franklin of Ames is fantastic. I've used them twice now, once to replace a hot water heater and once to remove blockage in my drain pipes. The team here is very kind, courteous, knowledgeable and thorough. The have done an excellent job. I appreciate their priority to take the extra time to ensure things are done right! Would highly recommend them to anyone!
1 year agoNolan is a very knowledgeable and skilled technician. He explain everything to me ( I am 70 years old with limited plumbing knowledge) and he did not leave until he was assured my new water heater was working perfectly. I enjoyed chatting with him as well. Probably the best experience I’ve had with an “emergency “ situation. I was impressed that he was able to arrive hours after my call and within a couple hours I had a brand new water heater. Cost was reasonable. This is the second time I have had a plumbing disaster and Ben Franklin Plumbing rescued me within hours.
5 months agoI have used Ben Franklin for as long as the company has been in Ames. When I had a major repair a few years ago- installing new water service - Chris was part of the team. He made what might have been a bad experience into one that was as pleasant and efficient as it could have been. I have asked for him to be "my plumber" ever since. He is skilled, efficient, and unfailingly positive. Yesterday he installed a new sink and faucet in my new home, and gave me good advice on dealing with fixtures in the house I'll need to maintain. He's terrific!
5 years agoClouser Plumbing
124 Sondrol Ave, Ames, IA 50010, USA
(515) 232-5156Had a septic pump and problems over a weekend. They said they would take care of us. We had to get tanks pumped first, but let Clouser know when tanks were pumped and they were out here within a couple of hours. They coordinated back and forth with the electricians and got us taken care of. They have handled water heater issues in the past for us. Very prompt, courteous, and get the job done. We VERY much appreciate them.
6 months agoTop notch service, I called at 8:07 am for a bad clog. They were at my house by 8:30am and gone by 9:05!! Very professional , knowledgeable, and friendly. Would definitely recommend
6 months agoExceptional customer service, communication, and professionalism. I always appreciate workers who are willing to walk me through what needs to happen while doing excellent work. Called them out for an outdoor faucet repair. Between it's location & weather we had a bit of a rain delay, but he let me know they were watching the radar for it to clear. They called with the GPS time from my place and were there at the estimated time. Very professional and kind. We had been looking for our "go to" call for plumbing and we have found them! I didn't feel like I wasted all day on a long window wait time. The work was done quickly, cleanly, and correctly. He even gave me some tips for making sure things got properly dried out. Absolutely the first call we will make from now on.
2 years agoSpeck Plumbing Inc
1805 E Lincoln Wy, Ames, IA 50010, USA
(515) 233-3680This is a great business! I had a troublesome drain clog in my basement that I couldn't get rid of with store bought products. When I called for a quote, the lady who I spoke to was very nice and personable. She was happy to answer all my questions. I called back later to set up the appointment and spoke with the same woman who was happy to schedule my job as soon as they could. When the plumber came, he was very nice and considerate enough not to wear his muddy boots onto my carpet! The clog turned out to be in the wall, and the plumber let me make a call to see if it was okay with my husband to cut into the wall. When he did cut the wall, he was very careful not to damage it very much, so it was less noticeable when he put the panel back. Once we got access to the pipe through the wall, it was a quick fix, and the plumber found a way to hook the pipe back together a bit cheaper than he originally expected, so that was awesome. The experience with Speck Plumbing was great, and I'll definitely go back if I need a plumber in the future!

1 year agoMark and his staff installed a utility sink in our home they did quick, concise work. They went out of their way to be as quiet as they could be due to a person with noise sensitivity in the home. They were polite and personable in all of their interactions - HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!!

(515) 232-0190Rerouted our plumbing for a 1/2 bath and washer/dryer stack remodel that required very specific locations. Nate and his guys did the work quickly for a very reasonable price with minimal patch work required. Several months out and no leaks. Accurate quote before work started. Added stud guards to both sides of the wall which undoubtedly saved the cabinet installer from flooding my home. Highly recommended.

On both occurrences, they were able to get someone to us within an hour and were able to address our issues. They're professional and helpful, and we'll continue to use them in the future.

5 years agoProfessional Drain Cleaning in Ames, Iowa
Whether you are a homeowner in the quiet West Ames neighborhoods or managing a property near the bustling Iowa State University campus, a clogged drain is a major disruption. In a busy college town like Ames, finding a plumber who isn't already backed up with service calls can be a challenge. That is where we come in to streamline your search for reliable help.
Our service takes the guesswork out of hiring. We don't just give you a list of names; we actively scan our network of certified Ames plumbers and filter them by your specific zip code. Most importantly, we call them to verify they are actually available to handle your emergency today. You get the peace of mind knowing that when we connect you, the help you need is already on the way.
Common Drain Issues in Ames, Iowa
Ames residents often deal with significant hard water mineral buildup. The high calcium and magnesium content in Iowa's water supply can lead to limescale scaling inside your pipes, which catches hair and soap scum, leading to stubborn, recurring clogs that DIY solutions can't fix.
In the historic neighborhoods near downtown Ames, many homes still feature clay or cast-iron sewer lines. Over time, the beautiful mature trees that line our streets send roots searching for water, often infiltrating these older pipes and causing massive main line backups that require professional hydro-jetting.
With a high density of student housing and multi-family units near ISU, 'fatbergs'—congealed masses of cooking grease, 'flushable' wipes, and food waste—are a common occurrence. These clogs often require heavy-duty equipment to clear safely without damaging the building's plumbing stack.
Many Ames basements rely on sump pumps and floor drains to handle Iowa’s heavy spring rains. If these drains are neglected, a sudden downpour can lead to localized flooding. We ensure the plumbers we find are equipped to handle these critical drainage points to keep your basement dry and safe.
Seasonal Drain Maintenance Tips for Ames, Iowa
Before the harsh Iowa winter sets in, ensure your outdoor hose bibs are disconnected and the interior shut-off valves are drained. This prevents ice from backing up into your indoor drainage system and causing cracks.
With heavy spring rains common in Story County, check your basement floor drains for any signs of slow drainage. Clearing these early ensures they can handle the volume of water when the snow melts and the rain begins.
During the summer months, be mindful of what goes down the garbage disposal during backyard BBQs. Iowa corn husks and fibrous vegetables can easily tangle disposal blades and create a thick sludge in your kitchen sink lines.
In the fall, keep your outdoor perimeter drains and gutter downspouts clear of fallen leaves. Debris that enters the underground drainage tiles can cause water to pool around your foundation, eventually forcing its way into your home's main drain system.
Average Drain Cleaning Costs in Ames, Iowa
The cost of drain cleaning in Ames typically depends on the location of the clog. A standard sink or toilet snake is on the lower end, while main sewer line cleaning or hydro-jetting for tree roots falls on the higher end of the spectrum.
Frequently Asked Questions about Drain Cleaning in Ames, Iowa
How quickly can I get a plumber to my Ames home?
Because we filter by zip code and call to verify 24-hour availability in real-time, we can often find a certified Ames plumber who can arrive at your door within hours of your request.
Is hard water a factor in Ames drain clogs?
Yes, Ames is known for hard water. Over time, mineral deposits build up inside your pipes, narrowing the passage and making it easier for debris to cause a total blockage.
Do you serve student housing areas near Iowa State?
Absolutely. We verify plumbers who are experienced with the high-demand plumbing systems found in Ames apartment complexes and student housing developments.
Will a standard drain cleaning clear tree roots?
While a standard snake might provide temporary relief, the Ames plumbers in our network often use hydro-jetting or specialized cutting blades to fully clear root intrusions common in older IA neighborhoods.
Are the plumbers in your network licensed in Iowa?
Yes, we only work with certified plumbers who are fully licensed and insured to perform residential and commercial drain cleaning services in the state of Iowa.
