3 months agoI had Chris Pugh come out this evening at 11:45pm on a Saturday for an emergency call, he was here within 15 minutes of getting the call. He was extremely helpful, respectful, and knowledgeable. We had moved into a new apartment first day and all the toilets had backed up along with the shower drain. He got everything taken care of in about an hour, (which was awesome). He explained the process of what we had happen and how he resolved it. Overall 10/10 experience. Great work, very respectful, and and the when all was said and done you wouldn’t know someone had done any work, very clean.
3 years agoI had to call after hours for an urgent issue, and I was really impressed with their quick response. Joshua arrived promptly, was very polite, and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. He explained everything clearly and made sure the problem was resolved efficiently. Great customer service from start to finish…highly recommend!
7 months agoDrain Wizard Plumbing and Drain Cleaning
127 Production Dr, Yorktown, VA 23693, USA
(757) 603-0011Drain wizard came out twice to my house to fix my laundry room drain and did not do a good job but rather try to blame me after I called them to complain about it. Instead, I was told that if I want them to come out again with their camera machine it will be another $500 charge after I have spend almost about $800 for the two times they came out. I therefor will not recommend them to anyone because I felt like I have been scammed.
3 weeks agoMy complex called Drain Wizard to come out to my townhouse for a clog in my drain that two bathroom sinks connect to. I was hesitant because a different plumbing company (A Hampton Roads Plumbing) has come out on two different occasions for a clogged pipe and ended up busting them wide open, flooding my townhouse. Rob & Wyatt explained everything and gave me confidence they knew what they were doing. They managed to get the clog out without issue and also spotted that I didn't have ptraps in any of my three bathroom sinks. They made sure to put ptraps in same day. I really appreciate Rob & Wyatt's work, as they were courteous, thorough, and professional. They also didn't leave the nasty stuff they pulled out of my drain in my trashes (like A1 did). They even wiped things down before they left and didn't leave any type of mess. I recommend them for any plumbing needs.
2 months agoMatt took care of a clogged drain on a Saturday afternoon; it was challenging, but he was diligent and got it fixed..if he hadn’t gone the extra mile our 91 yr old mother wouldn’t have had water/toilets for another day. Will definitely recommend.
2 months agoPowell's Plumbing & Air
1111 Boissevain Ave, Norfolk, VA 23507, USA
(757) 801-2290Highly recommend Powells (formally Norfolk, plumbing). I had a clogged kitchen sink that was slow draining for a month. I tried every product on the market & tried to snake it (all Unsuccessfully). After washing dishes in the bathtub for a few weeks, (too busy & hoping it would magically just get better (haha), the final straw was when my washer overflowed from the drain tube going into wall, All over my laundry floor. I needed someone to rescue me. I called Powells per many great recommendations by a client, NextDoor & google and made an appointment. They came out the very next day. The guys (Wes & Jason) got everything fixed in a few hours. They were knowledgeable & professional. I felt like the price was fair, and I did not feel taken advantage of. I would definitely use them again in the future. It was about $800 for snake of main line and washer and sink lines as well as installing a new/additional 2 way cleanout under the house. Original quote was $400 but once they got into it , it required much more work and more hours. Thanks Wes & Jason. I have peace of mind now!! Worth every penny! And that kind of work is Gross!! Lol Well deserved $
3 months agoAbsolute lifesaver! Came home from vacation to half of our home flooded with waste water. I was terrified it was a septic issue and couldn't be quickly resolved, I also had an inkling that a lot of the plumbing, electrical, additions, etc weren't exactly to code and thus could not be fixed. We were told they couldnt arrive for 3 days, but ended up coming a day sooner. They resolved it within a few hours! And when the backup reached the addition and flooded our laundry room, they were able to come the next day to inspect and had the supplies and repair done the day after! And the technician/plumber was an absolute peach! His name is Weston and I felt completely safe having him in my home. No bad vibes whatsoever and he was so easy to talk to. I cant speak to the price, as our landlord paid for it, but really any price was worth the service in my opinion. Really helped us in a pinch.
1 month agoKEVIN came out to our home to replace a gas valve on our gas log fireplace he did an AWESOME job he displayed GREAT knowledge, attitude, character and politeness ,the entire time he was here he was always ever so careful, respectful about working in the surroundings. 2 weeks agoBlair's Plumbing Repair & Drains
337 Thalia Dr, Newport News, VA 23608, USA
(757) 719-1236We had an excellent experience with Blair's Plumbing Repair and Drains. Blair's removed the polybutylene installed in the 90s and completed a repipe of our entire house with a water main replacement as well. Justan, Ben, Aaron, Luke, and Daniel took the time and care to protect our property. The team is knowledgeable, thorough, pleasant, respectful, and work to do the job correctly. Ashley is great to work with doing all the coordination and scheduling. Highly recommended. They will be my first call for any future work.
2 weeks agoI needed a 50 year old hose bib replaced, and also wanted another one installed on the opposite end of the house. I felt the price quoted was quite reasonable considering they needed to drill thru brick and crawl space insulation. I then asked for a quote for installing a deep sink next to the washer. This involved quite a bit more work, but while under the house, the tech pointed out installing the new drain 'could' be attached to the existing cast iron pipe, but also pointed out how the slope was not correct (obvious low point then flowing back uphill). By replacing the cast iron and correcting the slope at the same time with installing a new drain line would be more cost effective. After removing the cast iron and seeing how much crud was inside and how restricted the flow was, we are quite thankful we had it replace with ABS before a major blockage developed. The new connections for the washer and deep sink were well placed and allow for a efficient space utilization. Ben and Aaron were very courteous, explained exactly what was needed, made suggestions for improvements occasionally, and finished the job (even with a few additions to the original scope of work) on time. The work areas were left cleaner than when they came.
7 months agoJustan and Aaron provided great service today. First impression - started with polite phone service and being offered an appointment same day with a small arrival window in comparison to most. Second impression- they explained everything extremely well. They took the the time to show my husband exactly what the problem was, walk through the options for repair, then immediately were able to fix the issue. Justan and Aaron were kind, respectful of our house, easy to understand, and left us feeling completely confident in the service performed. We will be using Blair’s for all plumbing needs in the future and referring them to friends and family.

(948) 212-2661We needed a full drain cleaning after some backup issues in the basement area. The crew was efficient and used some high-tech equipment to make sure the blockage was entirely gone. I liked that they gave us some advice on how to prevent it from happening again in the future.

3 weeks agoBarry and Sons Plumbing
941 W Little Creek Rd, Norfolk, VA 23505, USA
(757) 650-3455I cannot say enough about this business! Due to what we later found out were tree roots causing a blockage in our pipes, we were down a bathroom in our home. Something you do not want to be without when you’re trying to potty train a toddler. Barry and Sons were able to get us in even with a full schedule. They were kind, knowledgeable, and efficient. Our problem was fixed the same day we contacted them. It’s wonderful to know you have someone you can trust when you have plumbing needs. Thank you so much for getting us back in order so quickly!
1 month agoCannot recommend Barry & Sons enough! My wife and I just recently moved into a home built in 1925 and unfortunately discovered that there were multiple plumbing jobs that needed to be completed, the biggest ultimately being a new main sewage line replacement. The entire team at Barry & Sons was fantastic to work with from start to finish! They were very informative and responsive throughout the entire process and the multiple jobs that we had them out for! They were also very reasonably priced! From Amanda working through scheduling and communication in the office, to Jesse, Tolson, and Quinn out to assess, to the entire team working on the main line replacement, I cannot say enough good things about this company! I would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a good, local, family owned plumbing company! We’ll definitely be using them again for jobs in the future!
1 year agoTolson Cordell and Jesse Duris with Barry and Son’s Plumbing removed my old water heater and installed a new one for me today. They were on time, moved with a sense or urgency, were very polite, and took the time to show me how the new unit worked. Very professional. I will now have Barry and Son’s Plumbing on speed dial in my phone. 100% recommended for your home or any rental property.

(948) 212-2662The drain cleaning team was very efficient and didn't mind my dogs barking while they worked. They cleared out the kitchen sink line which has been sluggish for months despite using store-bought cleaners. The price was exactly what they quoted me during the evaluation.

Common Drain Issues in Newport News
In many of Newport News’s more established neighborhoods, mature oak and pine trees are a staple of the landscape. However, their roots are notorious for infiltrating older clay or cast-iron sewer lines, leading to stubborn backups that standard DIY chemicals simply cannot clear.
Being a coastal community, sand and silt can often find their way into floor drains and outdoor drainage systems, especially after heavy Tidewater storms. This sediment buildup creates a dense blockage that requires professional-grade equipment to flush out completely.
Many homes in the Newport News area utilize older plumbing infrastructure that is susceptible to mineral scale buildup from the regional water supply. Over time, this narrows the diameter of your pipes, leading to chronic slow drains in kitchens and bathrooms.
With the high humidity levels in Newport News, grease and organic matter in kitchen drains can solidify and attract mold growth more rapidly than in drier climates. This often results in foul odors and persistent clogs that necessitate a deep professional cleaning.
Seasonal Drain Maintenance Tips for Newport News
Spring in Newport News often brings heavy rainfall; ensure your outdoor area drains and gutter downspouts are clear of debris to prevent basement or crawlspace flooding.
Before the summer humidity peaks, have your condensate drain line inspected. In Virginia’s heat, AC units work overtime, and a clogged drain line can lead to significant indoor water damage.
During the fall, keep the many falling leaves away from your driveway and patio drains to prevent localized flooding during the autumn hurricane season.
While Newport News winters are generally mild, occasional deep freezes can happen. Ensure any exposed outdoor pipes are insulated to prevent small cracks that lead to major leaks once the ground thaws in the spring.
Average Drain Cleaning Costs in Newport News
Standard drain cleaning in Newport News typically ranges based on the severity of the clog and the equipment required (such as basic cabling vs. hydro-jetting). Emergency after-hours service or deep-rooted sewer line issues may increase the total cost.
