Had a great experience with Sewer Flow. Randy was super cool, and really knowledgeable. He talked me through a bunch of different solutions that they could provide. He was able to get through the blockage quickly and stayed until we made sure everything was good. Highly recommended.

Our kitchen sink clogged in the evening. We called Sewer Flow at 8AM the next morning and by 9:15AM they had somebody at our house. Joe was the man they sent and he was very nice and efficient. He had the grease clog under our basement floor cleared with a snake within a half an hour. The price was very reasonable. Definitely would recommend.

Joe did a great job. Arrived about 1.5 hours after I called. Had my drain running freely in hour. And explained everything! Reasonable rate, even on a Sunday. Thank you. Highly Recommend.

Steven Thompson came out and worked his butt off in single digit temperatures to not only unclog my drain in the garage, but also go through my whole system to show me exactly what else was causing the trouble. He also explained how it was likely to cause more trouble in the future. Very honest and hard working guy.

Phase 1, Nick was great. Well informed and thorough. Would welcome him back in our home any time. Recommend a service and I agreed. Phase 2, despite Nick's great performance, they sent out the "jet team" who couldn't resolve the clog. Turns out that after signing my name about 10 times, I had agreed to pay them to "try" to fix the problem, not to fix it. I'm out an embarrassing amount of money for what is still a clogged drain. They recommend that I replace a bunch of plumbing and they'll come back out to try again. Instead, I bought a $35 snake and solved it myself. Phase 3. The office followed up to schedule a time to send Nick for a follow up. While I was anxious to speak with him again (he was great) I told the office that I had fixed the clog in the interim. They refunded my balance with no complaint. I'm less upset than I was, but still be aware that they are selling products and not solutions.

Robert Halinka was awesome. He should up, listened, did some troubleshooting and was able to get a drain that was backing up cleared for us in 30 minutes or so. I highly recommend Robert, he did a great job and should be commended for his knowledge, professionalism and kindness, know-how, and work ethic. Thank you Robert!!

I can not say enough about my dealings with Rita Router. I’m a widow who never had to deal with household issues and I truly depend on my Lord and Savior Jesus to lead and guide me. I was lead to contact Roto Rourer and from the very first contact I had nothing but success. I was treated very fairly and everything was explained to me in simple details. I had to have my sewer drain cleaned because of my basement flooding. Then they gave me a fair estimate to come and sanitize my basement. The workers took great respect of my home in covering my floors and carpets with plastic and were so friendly and everything was done to the exact same way it was explained. Thank you very much I will only use this company for all my plumbing needs

I came home after work to a flooded basement. (Saturday evening) and needed a emergency service call. Roto Rooter was here in a little over an hour. The gentleman that came to help me was Marc. He was absolutely fantastic! He was friendly, knowledgeable, determined and extremely efficient. He spent hours working on the backed up drains and was successful! He maintained a positive attitude (given the situation) and was very personable. I will be a returning customer just based on the excellent service I received from Marc. Thank you Roto Rooter and most of all- Thank you Marc!

Roto-Rooter came out to fix this recurring issue of a pipe bursting in extreme cold and it cost less than half as much as the other company that did it last winter. Same day service! Bob was great to work with on this urgent matter and the dispatch team communicated very well.

Marc came today to remove a clog in my main line. Took a little extra work as it was a bigger clog. Marc never gave up and made it happen! Extremely professional and very dedicated to getting the job done. EVERY company should strive to hire more Marcs. Thank you, Marc! Tell your bosses you deserve a raise immediately, and have them call me for the reference! Doug also came by with his camera, took the time to show the piping and explain the system. Another amazing professional!

I scheduled an appointment with Roto Rooter in the morning and Steven showed up exactly when the appointment started. I was called prior to make sure everything was still good. The work was completed within 5 minutes and pricing was fair. Pricing was presented when our plumber showed up, and no work was done unless we agreed to that pricing. We would use Roto Rooter again for a clogged drain, no question!

Everyone was extremely professional and polite. They went above and beyond to explain our options and what they were doing. They even called the local borough on our behalf to ask them to come service the part that they were responsible for. They came as soon as possible and kept me updated on their arrival time. They completed the drain clear efficiently and honored their online coupon so the price was very reasonable. I would recommend McVay (and already have)! Thank you!

McVAY = VERY IMPRESSIVE! The buyer's sewer line inspection revealed 2 breaks. These required repair. Through the estimating process the fact that this was a CSL, a sewer line shared between 2 or more neighbors, came to light, not uncommon for Pittsburgh. Further revealed, there was no housetrap. In spite of these and other complexities, the estimate was presented with full confidence in the repair which offered minimal digging, installation of a whole house trap, new PVC fittings, and 35 ft of 6” diameter cured-in-place liner. Shout out to Adam! Well done on the estimate of work! All of the technicians I met on the job were personable, helpful, hard working and …impressive. The McVay team managed the inspection process with Allegheny Health Department Plumbing Inspections seamlessly. All the work was done in a timely manner as various crews were brought in for each stage of the process. The site supervisor was not satisfied with the quality of the finish work, the height of the fixtures protruded above the poured concrete sidewalk by an unacceptable margin. Chris wouldn't sign off on the job until that was made right. It was made right. Way to go Chris! That’s the kind of contractor team I want to work with. A team that makes sure the work is done right before walking off the job. There was one little hiccup at the end in my opinion. Even as of 1 hour before the sale closing, I had not heard from anyone who could verify for me how the final inspection video clearly demonstrated that the repairs of the two breaks in the line were actually accomplished. It was as though the McVay team thought this was intuitive or that I should simply trust them because they said it was so. The AGHD inspection simply proved that it met county requirements for what was installed; it didn’t guarantee that actual repairs were made. (It’s a very odd process actually, IMO.) Finally…Jake got on the phone with me and walked me through the repair inspection video so that I could have full confidence that I was offering the buyer of my property a verifiably fully repaired sewer line. Way to go Jake! So that’s my one suggestion for the McVay team. Please consider having a “closer” on hand at the end of the process, someone who is familiar with the project and can explain exactly how the work done met the needs of the project. Perhaps it should even be Adam, the estimator? For the potential client in need of sewer line repair, working from sewer line scope videos with their unreliable foot counters is very challenging. It is not easy to figure out what’s going on underground from these. I found McVay easy to work with and amenable to being held accountable for their work and to my satisfaction. I would use McVay again. Ken Gryger, Anakanio LLC.

Everyone was very friendly. The company was very communicative and informative. I think the cost was a bit high but I've never had any sewer work done so I'm not sure. It was actually the lowest estimate I received so I guess it was reasonable.

I cannot recommend this company. He never returned phone calls. We had to chase him down constantly. Of course when the final bill came due he never stopped calling. We paid for half the job up front, $6,000. Then he wanted the final payment sent over night. He called our Realtor and threatened to put a lien on the house. He finished the job 10 days ago. We hired Terry's Plumbing to connect the house to Hampton Shaler sewer. He quoted a price of $12,000 for the job. After starting the job he called and said he hit blue rock and needed to rent a machine for $3,000 so we agreed to the additional charge. Then we received the bill and he charged us $1,000 for the copper water pipe his team dug up by accident? 60 feet to be exact. Then wanted to charge us and took the copper, not sure what happened to it. When we asked where he was while the copper water line was being dug up, he was on another job. We are in the process of reporting this to the Better Business Bureau to resolve this matter as we do not feel we should have to pay for his company's mistake.

My hot water tank went today. I called my warranty company and They connected me with Terry’s Plumbing on Babcock Blvd. I asked for the last appointment of the day. The technician John came out and assessed the situation. He went right to the expansion tank and said it was full and ready to go. He informed me that I would need a new hot water tank and an expansion tank. He had both installed in an hour. John was a pleasure to deal with and very knowledgeable about his work. I am going to have some work done in the summer and I am definitely going to use Terry’s plumbing and request John to do the work for me. My experience with Terry’s plumbing was pleasant from start to finish. Thank you John and everyone at Terry’s plumbing for an out job. Paula Moore

DO NOT RECOMMEND. Using a different plumber will save you a lot of headaches. They do shoddy work that does not last and the company does not stand behind their work. We had a blockage from under our bathroom sink for which greater Pittsburgh plumbing installed valves and new hoses under the sink. Within 8 months we started getting a leak from below our sink. We called greater Pittsburgh plumbing again for the repair. The technician stated it was not a call back for his original repair and charged us full price for the second repair. He stated that this can sometimes happen when the flexible hose he installed is too short and so replaced it with a longer. When I called to clarify why this was not considered a call back for the original work, the manager just repeatedly stated that because her plumber said that it was not due to his original work then they would not cover it. The plumber stated that the leakage was from the PVC directly below his valve. Looking at the picture, you can see that there is barely a half centimeter of PVC pipe below the valve. The manager refused to acknowledge the plumber stated that this can happen when the installed hoses are too short. Dealing with them when you have problems with their work is extremely frustrating. Trying to get the manager to call you back takes multiple phone calls over many days. I wish that I looked at the other customer stories on reddit prior to choosing to go with them, it would have saved me close to $500.

When the township identified I had a problem w/our sewer line I felt pretty panicked. Greater Pittsburgh Plumbing was recommended by 3 independent sources. The fellow who came out to determine what needed to be done couldn't have been more knowledgeable, patient, & helpful. The crew that was sent out to install a new sewer line from my house to the main was terrific. They were hard working, knowledgeable, & professional. There was one minor glitch at the end as sometimes happens. The company was so responsive to my concerns. The office staff was responsive & kept me informed. I would recommend this company without reservation. I would use their services in the future.

From the start, they made it easy to schedule and were able to get to my home within 24 hours of calling to check out my failing furnace. Our service tech Mike was friendly, knowledge and explained the process and repair needs every step of the way. I never felt pressured into add on services or products, and my issue was promptly resolved. This is the only company I'll be using moving forward, and would recommend them to anyone.

Do you think it should cost $975.00 - a $100.00 coupon total cost of $875.00 just to replace a main line valve, which only took 1& 1/2 hours to install? They say PROUDLY one flat rate on their website. However they won't tell you what it is on the phone. The plumbers were excellent but the PRICE GAUGING WAS RIDICULOUS. And did I mention it was sitting right there in my basement, NOT UNDERGROUND!!! Google it to see how much they say it SHOULD COST YOU. It was a PLAIN SHUT OFF VALVE that they had in their truck.

My hot water heater had to be replaced. It was leaking (from corrosion) and wasn't working anymore. It had 19 years of service, which was very good, especially because I did not flush it every other year as they recommended. Lime builds up in the hot water heater in time because of the hard water in Moon Township and eventually the sludge (lime) corrodes the hot water heater. Josh Farabaugh and his helper Jose came very quickly to help me. I called them the night before and they came the next day, which I wanted. I lived without the hot water and using towels for the water leakage overnight. Josh and Jose were quick, professional and very courteous. My hot water heater was replaced, and the water feed valves were brought up to code for Allegheny County.

Bryan Bell: Did a fantastic job 👏. Our Hot Water Heater Took A Die, On Christmas Day Of All Days. I thought the pilot light went out on the Hot Water Tank. He was able to fix our Sink in the kitchen, and our Toilet for our Main Bathroom Down Stairs Main Level of our house because it was not filling up with water. He order the Hot Water Tank yesterday, so we had to wait for the Hot Water Tank the Next day which is December 27TH, 2024 to be sent to the shop wherever Bryan Bell had to pick up the Hot Water Tank at. So my guess it took over a 8 hour job to finish this job, and I Thank You for your service. From Mark A. Palmer.

Jose repaired a few items on our new home! He was on time, kind, professional, discussed what he thought and how we should proceed, and did the work the same day as the estimate! We had a pressure regulator installed, a backflow valve installed, and expansion tank installed, and a drain pipe corrected (it was trying to drain up hill). He also capped a gas line for us. He did all of the work in a tidy and clean manner. The installation looks fantastic. For the sink drain line, he did a much better job than I would have myself because he completely redid the under sink portion so the water could drain right. I posted some before and after photos showing the work.

I was thoroughly satisfied with my service from A1 Tom, plumbing. Jose worked on my plumbing issue. He did an excellent job. He explained everything very well he was fair and honest he wasn’t trying to rip me off. The price is great. The work was done Excellently, he not only told me what was wrong but he showed me what he was doing and what was wrong and what was causing the problem so I was very satisfied with him. And he even let me know that they had financing. I didn’t know that they had financing for Plumbing so that was a A+ gem to know as well. I will be using this company again, and I will be recommending them to my friends and family. I recommend them to anybody needing plumbing service cause they’re really good and professional. They’re on time they come when they say they’re gonna come and very organized. I like this company. I will give them 10 stars if I could. And y’all make sure whenever you look to promote or give Jose a raise, he needs a raise. It was very loyal to the company. A very standup guy. Good luck, Jose and all your endeavors.

Verify Availability Before You Call

Professional Drain Cleaning in Pittsburgh

Dealing with a stubborn clog in the 'Steel City' can be a major headache, especially when you're navigating the unique plumbing demands of Pittsburgh's historic neighborhoods. Whether you're in a classic row house in Lawrenceville or a modern home in Mount Lebanon, aging infrastructure and heavy seasonal rains often lead to unexpected drainage failures. You shouldn't have to spend your afternoon calling down a list of businesses only to find out they are booked for the week. Our service changes the way Pittsburgh homeowners find help. We maintain a robust network of certified local plumbers across Allegheny County. Instead of giving you a random list, we filter providers by your exact zip code and proactively call them to confirm they can handle your specific drain issue today. We do the legwork of verifying 24-hour availability so you can get your pipes flowing again without the stress of the search.

Common Drain Issues in Pittsburgh

Aging Infrastructure: Many of Pittsburgh’s older homes in neighborhoods like Shadyside or South Side still utilize original cast iron or clay sewer pipes. Over time, these materials can corrode or collapse, leading to frequent backups that require professional intervention.

Invasive Tree Roots: The lush, hilly landscape of Western PA means many residential sewer lines are under threat from thirsty tree roots. These roots find tiny cracks in pipes and expand, creating massive blockages that common hardware-store chemicals simply can't touch.

Combined Sewer Pressure: During heavy Pennsylvania rainstorms, Pittsburgh's combined sewer systems can become overwhelmed. This external pressure often causes residential floor drains and basement pipes to back up, requiring a technician who understands the local municipal layout.

Winter Grease Buildup: Pittsburgh winters are notoriously cold. When grease or fats are poured down the drain, the frigid temperatures of the underground pipes cause the sludge to solidify much faster, creating 'fatbergs' that completely seal off your drainage system.

Seasonal Drain Maintenance Tips for Pittsburgh

Winter: Protect your pipes from the Western PA deep freeze by ensuring your basement is properly insulated. Never pour cooking grease down the sink during the holidays, as the cold ground will cause it to harden instantly.

Spring: As the snow melts and the spring rains hit the Three Rivers area, check your basement floor drains for any signs of slow drainage or 'gurgling' which could indicate a main line issue before it becomes a flood.

Summer: Be careful with your garbage disposal during backyard BBQ season. Fibrous foods like corn husks and celery are common summer clog culprits that can stall your kitchen sink during a party.

Fall: Clear fallen leaves away from your home’s external drainage grates and window wells. Clogged exterior drains are a leading cause of water seepage in Pittsburgh basements during the autumn rain transition.

Average Drain Cleaning Costs in Pittsburgh

$175-$475

The cost for drain cleaning in Pittsburgh typically depends on the location of the clog. Simple sink or toilet snaking is on the lower end, while main sewer line cleaning or hydro-jetting to remove roots can range higher.

Frequently Asked Questions about Drain Cleaning in Pittsburgh

How quickly can I get a plumber to my Pittsburgh home?

Because we filter by your specific zip code and call to verify current availability, we can often find a certified Pittsburgh plumber who can be at your door within a few hours, even for 24-hour emergencies.

Do you cover all areas of Allegheny County?

Yes, our network spans from the North Shore to the South Hills and out to the suburbs. By entering your zip code, we ensure the plumber we verify for you is actually local to your specific neighborhood.

Why shouldn't I just use a chemical drain cleaner from the store?

In many older Pittsburgh homes, harsh chemicals can actually eat away at aging metal pipes, leading to expensive leaks. Professional cleaning is safer for your home's long-term plumbing health.

Are the plumbers in your network licensed to work in Pennsylvania?

Absolutely. We only scan and verify certified, professional plumbers who are familiar with Pennsylvania plumbing codes and the specific challenges of Pittsburgh's hilly terrain.

What if my drain clogs in the middle of the night on a weekend?

Our service is designed for exactly that. We verify 24/7 availability within our network, so we only connect you with a professional who has confirmed they are ready to handle a late-night emergency call.
